Over 2,000 patients to benefit from free surgeries in West

A dedicated team of medical specialists has been flagged off by Dr Diana Atwine, the permanent secretary at the ministry of Health, to conduct free surgical operations across all districts of Uganda’s West Nile region.

The one-week initiative, organized by the Association of Surgeons of Uganda (ASOU), is expected to benefit more than 2,000 patients. The surgical camp, dubbed “Restoring Health,” runs from September 20 to September 27, and its organizers say it reflects a commitment to improving access to surgical care and creating lasting value in the region.

In addition to providing surgical services, the teams will also screen children for ear and eye conditions, ensuring a broader impact on community health. Atwine expressed pride in the team’s work, noting that their efforts continue to make a meaningful difference.

In a statement, the Association of Surgeons of Uganda extended gratitude to its partners, stating, “The West Nile Surgical Camp is bringing essential care closer to those who need it most. Together, we’re making a difference.”
