A Gang youth group Mounts an illegal road block, extorts money from locals
ADJUMANI: The Territorial Police in Adjumani has in custody two suspects for staging an illegal road block and extorting money from locals.
The incident occurred on the 30th May 2024 at Indriani village, Lewa Parish in Adjumani, where the suspects identified as Baguma George Ijjo 36 and Bongomi Bara Rodgers 28 improvised a locally nail made barrier for blocking the road.
The suspects started targeting businessmen and charcoal dealers, transporting their goods from Zoka to Kampala, under the Pretext of enforcing the ban on transportation of charcoal.
The Police Spokesperson SCP Fred Enanga told the press that the suspects Baguma George Ijjo a ring leader/bodaboda of Deri village and Bongomi Bara Rodgers of Odraji village and was found in possession of motorcycle Ug 0480Y for the Ministry of Gender and Labor.
He added that the locally nail made barrier was also recovered and efforts are in place to trace for several victims of torture by the group behind the illegal road block and robberies in the area.
“Efforts are in place to trace for several victims of torture by the group. A statement has been recorded from Nkalubo Muhammad, from Lacor Hospital. The suspects include a youth leader, who was part of the extortionist conduct and we strongly believe the arrest of these criminals will help restore peace in the area” said Fred Enanga.
Fred Enanga further encouraged the public, especially transporters and dealers, to remain vigilant and always report suspicious behavior to the police.
