Journalists told to widen awareness on financial intelligence.

KISORO: The Media People in Kisoro district have been encouraged to widen awareness on financial intelligence to reduce the increased crime rate of laundering of money in the country.

This was revealed by Mr. Jossy Muhangi on Thursday during a one day workshop held at Shaaza hotel in Kisoro municipality Kisoro district.

Jossy Muhangi the senior public relations officer said that in a period of 10 years the Financial Intelligence Authority has received over 50100 cases with 592 cases already in court of Law and are mostly from the banks.

He added that the importance of the Financial Intelligence Authority is to fight money laundering obtained by people through financial terrorism, corruption, trade, wildlife, adduction trade, tax evasion and forgery of money.

The financial intelligence Manager in charge of training and outreaches Mr. Kaganzi said that Journalists can help to fight laundering of money using their media houses and social media as they are people who reach out to different people.

The Aim of the workshop was to foster the integrity of the financial system through effective detection and prevention of financial crimes.
