Rubanda teen girl kills father over rabbit

The police in Rubanda district are searching for a 16-year-old girl accused of killing her father following a domestic dispute over a rabbit.

The suspect, whose identity is being withheld because she is a minor, allegedly attacked 41-year-old Deusi Tukacungurwa, a resident of Mungaara village, Kyenyi Parish, Muko sub-county, on Tuesday evening.

According to the deceased’s wife, Mary Tumuheise, she left home at around 6:00 a.m. to work in the garden and returned at about 8:30 p.m., only to find her husband lying dead in a pool of blood inside their house.

She raised an alarm, drawing neighbours to the scene. A seven-year-old daughter of the couple reportedly told neighbours that her father had killed a rabbit belonging to the teenage suspect while she was grazing sheep nearby.

On learning this, the girl is said to have rushed home, picked up a machete, and repeatedly hacked her father, killing him instantly. Kigezi Regional police spokesperson Elly Maate confirmed the incident, saying investigations are underway and efforts to apprehend the suspect are ongoing.
