Ugandan coffee farmers have a renewed sense of optimism following an official announcement from the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF) confirming a significant rebound in coffee prices.
In a media brief issued Monday, Minister Frank K. Tumwebaze stated that the coffee sector is on a clear path to recovery after months of decline.
“As per today’s coffee market report from our Department of Coffee Development, a kilogram of coffee is selling at between Shs 13,000-14,000 for Robusta (FAQ) and Shs 13,500-14,000 for Arabica parchment per kilo,” he announced, noting that these prices align with projections made in June.
The minister attributed the recovery to the resilience of Ugandan farmers and the sustained confidence of international buyers in the country’s high-quality coffee. He stressed the importance of maintaining this momentum by upholding best practices in production, harvesting, and post-harvest handling.
“Farmers and actors in the coffee value chain are urged to maintain high-quality standards, adopt good agricultural practices, strengthen farmer organizations, and explore value addition opportunities to reduce vulnerability to international price fluctuations,” Tumwebaze emphasized.
The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Uganda’s coffee sector, a vital component of the economy and a source of livelihood for millions of families. With prices stabilizing, the government is calling on all stakeholders to work together to safeguard Uganda’s reputation as a producer of premium coffee.
