The deceased include 12-year-old Ellah Namiru, 5-year-old Amani Namulema, and 3-year-old Namujju Tamale. According to preliminary police investigations, the children were left unattended by their mother, Julie Nalubwama, while their father, Lenon Kavuma, was away in Jinja for work.

The fire, which broke out around 1:00 a.m., was reported to the police by the local LC1 chairperson. The Fire and Rescue Services quickly responded and extinguished the blaze.

Tragically, two of the children’s bodies were recovered outside the burnt house, while a third was found inside, severely burnt beyond recognition.

Luke Owoyesigyire, the deputy public relations officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police, confirmed that a case has been opened and an investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the fire and the circumstances surrounding the tragedy. Police have documented the scene, recorded witness statements, and conveyed the bodies to the City Mortuary for postmortem examinations.
