Four arrested over forged academic docs in Kakumiro UPDF recruitment

Four people have been arrested in Kakumiro district for allegedly presenting forged academic documents during the ongoing Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) recruitment exercise.

The arrests were made on Wednesday after a verification of the original documents presented by the applicants. The four suspects, whose identities have been withheld to avoid compromising the investigation, were among 50 shortlisted applicants for recruitment.

They allegedly presented fake Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) slips, forged Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) certificates, falsified Senior Four testimonials, and counterfeit national identification cards.

Captain Wilson Kato Agaba, the public information officer for UPDF Recruitment Team 5 in the Bunyoro Region, issued a stern warning against attempts to cheat the system. He stated that the screening team is professional and capable of easily detecting fake academic documents.

“We have a professional and dedicated screening team that can easily detect forged academic documents,” Agaba said.

The suspects have been handed over to the police for further investigation and will be prosecuted accordingly. Agaba also reported that out of the 504 people targeted for recruitment from the Bunyoro sub-region, the team only managed to recruit 366.

This incident follows a similar one last week in Kagadi district, where 13 people – 11 men and two women were arrested for presenting forged documents during the same recruitment exercise. They were also found with fake PLE slips, forged UCE certificates, falsified testimonials, and counterfeit identification cards.
