Clinician who confessed to murder in Nakawa church, transferred to Kabale for investigation

A 24-year-old clinical officer who publicly confessed in a Kampala church to killing a woman in a Kabale lodge has been transferred to Kabale for further investigation.

Clinton Mwesiime, a clinical officer at Hamurwa health centre IV in Rubanda district, was arrested on Saturday, August 9, after he requested for prayers during a church service in Nakawa, Kampala, after confessing to killing Leonada Kobusingye.
Kobusingye, 45, a resident of Rubanda district, was found stabbed to death on July 30 in a room at Cheers Pub and Accommodation in Kabale Municipality. Investigations revealed she had checked in the previous day and identified herself as Allen Orishaba, accompanied by a man who only introduced himself as Julius. The pair claimed to be from the Uganda–Rwanda border town of Katuna in Kabale district.
The next day, the lodge attendant discovered Kobusingye’s body with four stab wounds to the chest and stomach, with a knife and an unused HIV/syphilis testing kit found nearby.
According to Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region police spokesperson, Mwesiime was held at Jinja Road Police Station until yesterday Wednesday, when he was moved to Kabale. Maate said Mwesiime will be formally charged with murder after investigations are complete.
A police detective in Kabale, speaking on the condition of anonymity, revealed details of Mwesiime’s confession. The suspect reportedly told investigators he had a relationship with Kobusingye after working for her as a laundry helper.
He claimed he decided to kill her after she became pregnant and refused to have an abortion, demanding marriage instead. Mwesiime allegedly feared public ridicule for marrying an older woman and was further angered after learning she was HIV positive.
