Plascon headlines drive to save 100 Ugandans with heart surgeries

Ahead of India’s Independence day scheduled for August 9, Kansai Plascon Uganda, in collaboration with the Sindhi Community in Uganda and the Indian Association Uganda, are fundraising and supporting efforts to give critical heart surgeries to more than 100 Ugandan children.

On average, about 8,300 children are born with congenital heart defects (CHDs) in Uganda. Of these, 2,000 are severe enough to require cardiac interventions. Many of these children are from vulnerable communities and lack the financial resources to get full medical care.

This means many future scientists, lawyers, engineers and leaders will not get to see their full potential. So, Plascon, together with their caretakers, has offered Shs 300m to sponsor more than 100 children, together with their caretakers, to travel to India for heart surgeries thanks.

Speaking to the media at Jain Samaj Temple, Naguru, Santosh Gumte, the managing director of Plascon, said they will send off the first batch of 12 Ugandan children to benefit from heart surgery.

“As Plascon, we are sending 50 children who are in dire need of surgery in order to get life to normal. If we do not sponsor these children, there are likely chances that they may perish. “This is a very big task which the Indian Association is spearheading without any expenditure to the patient or to their caretakers,” he said.

Other sponsors include the Indian Association Uganda in conjunction with Rotary Club of Chennai Thiruvanmiyur, Rotary Kampala Ssese Islands and Healthy Hearty Foundation.

“We believe it is our duty as corporate organisations to support the uplifting of everyone in our community. However, the need is great and more support is still required. I, therefore, invite you all to attend this year’s India Day celebrations on the August 9, 2025 at the Kololo ceremonial grounds. Let’s celebrate our diverse cultures, our heritage, our shared commitment to development and above all, the principles of Ubuntu: that I am because we are! Come watch the amazing performances as we raise more funds for this noble charitable cause.”
