Seven remanded over murder of Compassion International official Godfrey Wayengera

Seven suspects have been remanded to Luzira prison over the gruesome murder of Godfrey Wayengera, an official of Compassion International Uganda and director of Beloved Daycare and Nursery School in Nsuube, Mukono district.
Yesterday, Wednesday, the accused were arraigned before Mukono grade one magistrate, Elizabeth Peace Lamunu and charged with murder, kidnapping, and aggravated robbery in connection with Wayengera’s killing.
The suspects include include Asharaf Tumusiime, 40, a resident of Ntungamo, Fahad Kasolo, 30, from Iganga, Mike Ssentaza, 40, also known as Mwagamwaga, a resident of Wakiso, Sgt Muhammad Mwesigye, 54, alias Jet Lee from Fort Portal, Cpl Boban Mugabe, attached to the UPDF Military Police in Kololo, Derrick Keeya, a resident of Ntenjeru, Mukono and Dauda Kyangwe.
According to the prosecution, the suspects, along with others still at large, allegedly abducted Wayengera and Christine Najjabi on June 9, 2025 in Nsuube while returning from a burial in Mbale.
The attackers were reportedly armed with a toy pistol and sticks. Court heard that while impersonating security officers, the group pretended to escort Wayengera to Mukono police station, but instead diverted to Kyungu Road, where Wayengera was murdered.
The attackers also allegedly robbed Wayengera’s personal belongings, including a Samsung SMA256 smartphone worth Shs 1.3 million and a Dell Latitude 5420 laptop valued at Shs 3 million.
Senior resident state attorney Emily Ninsiima informed the court that investigations are still ongoing and requested that the suspects be remanded. Magistrate Lamunu granted the request, remanding the seven until August 7.
