Assistant DPP Fatumah Nabiwemba found dead in her home

Fatumah Bbuye Nabiwemba, the assistant director of public prosecutions, has been found dead in her home in Wampeewo, Kasangati town council, Wakiso district.

Nabiwemba, 47, had reportedly not been seen at work for four days. According to Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, her disappearance was first reported on Thursday at around 8:36 pm by Hamuza Kabanda, a driver at the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Preliminary investigations indicate that Nabiwemba, who lived alone, was found unresponsive inside her residence. A team of detectives led by the Division Police Commander visited the scene and conducted a search, during which several items were recovered.

Her body was later taken to the City Mortuary for a postmortem to determine the exact cause of death. Nabiwemba was widely respected for her professionalism and dedication to justice during her years of service at the DPP’s office, where she rose through the ranks to become assistant director of public prosecutions.

Sources close to the family revealed that she had been staying alone, while her children were away at boarding school. This is not the first time Nabiwemba had been reported missing.

In December 2017, she disappeared under unclear circumstances and was reunited with her family in February 2018.

At the time, her husband, Dr Ibrahim Sendagire, told the media that he believed she was suffering from postnatal depression following the loss of a newborn child and had chosen to isolate herself to grieve. Police say further updates will be provided as investigations progress.
