Bumasifwa Seed School students protest over missing lessons

Students of Bumasifwa Seed School in Sironko district staged a peaceful demonstration on Monday, demanding the immediate transfer of their head teacher, Maliki Lunialo.

The students marched to the district headquarters, accusing Lunialo of absenteeism, poor relations with the school board, and the dismissal of teachers recruited under the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA).

According to the students, they have spent nearly a month without lessons, alleging that all their teachers were unfairly sacked due to the head teacher’s actions.

“We are not learning, and our future is at stake. We want a head teacher who is present and supports our teachers,” said one of the protesting students.

They vowed to continue protesting until Lunialo is removed from the school. But in response, Lunialo dismissed the allegations. He explained that the term of the previous board members expired in December, and he had already submitted a new list to the ministry of Education for approval.

“The former board members are simply unhappy about the transition and are inciting students to demonstrate,” Lunialo claimed.

He further attributed the disruption in lessons to a sit-down strike by arts teachers and denied accusations of dismissing them. Lunialo also defended his alleged absenteeism, saying his frequent travel to Kampala is due to official duties.
