One dead, two critically injured in Namisindwa road accident

Namisindwa, Uganda – One pedestrian has been killed and two others critically injured following a road accident in Lwakhakha town council, Namisindwa District, on Monday afternoon.
The incident occurred when a truck, registration number UAR 972C, loaded with scrap metal, veered off the Lwakhakha-Kenya road and rammed into pedestrians along the roadside.
Eyewitness Bonny Wekesa said the truck was en route from Bubutu toward the Kenya border when it lost control and crashed into people conducting business along the roadside.
Wekesa attributed the cause of the accident to a suspected brake failure. A 50-year-old female roadside vendor, whose identity had not been confirmed by press time, died on the spot.
Two minors who were reportedly aboard the truck sustained severe injuries and were rushed to Bubutu Health Centre III for emergency treatment. Namisindwa district police commander (DPC), Addie Rich, confirmed the incident.
He said the truck driver fled the scene and that investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the crash.
