Kampala, Uganda – The Speaker of the Ugandan Parliament, Rt. Hon. Anita Anet Among, and her deputy, Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa, have paid tribute to the late Pope Francis, who passed away on Easter Monday, April 21, 2025, at the age of 88.

According to the Vatican, Pope Francis died at his residence in the Vatican’s Casa Santa Marta, as pronounced by the Vatican on Monday, April 22, 2025.

The Pope had been hospitalized earlier this year after suffering from bronchitis and bilateral pneumonia.

In a tweet, Speaker Among described the late Pope Francis as a person who embodied love for the underprivileged and peace for the world.

She cherished the miracles the Pope brought into her life, including a special prayer he gave her at the Vatican and the opportunity to confess to him on several occasions.

Deputy Speaker Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa also paid tribute to the late Pope, describing him as a powerful advocate for social justice who dedicated his life to serving God.

Tayebwa noted that during their private audiences, the Pope exemplified a life of humility and compassion, truly embodying the values of social justice.

Both leaders expressed their respect and admiration for the late Pope Francis, who will be remembered for his commitment to serving the Lord and humanity.
